You may be sick of hearing this… but you really should hop on the TikTok train for your small business! I’ll explain why it’s a game-changing platform for so many businesses.
Your Business Should Have A Social Media Presence
In today’s world, it’s incredibly important for businesses to have an online presence. Why? Because it builds trust, and social proof and increases the likelihood that someone will make a purchase. Social media allows for real-time discussions between the entrepreneur and the client/customer. People buy from businesses that they trust!
If you’re wondering how necessary social media is for your business, think about yourself as the consumer. Have you ever looked up a company’s social media profile to learn more about them? Looked up their reviews online? Or maybe even reached out to a business on social media for more information? I think we all have!
So Why TikTok For Your Small Business?
Simple. The algorithm on TikTok is unlike any other social media platform.
Picture Facebook and Instagram for example, the majority of the time your content is only shown to people that already follow your page. TikTok, on the other hand, has a For You page where your content is automatically shown to NON-FOLLOWERS who are likely to be your target audience.
It can take a little time for the algorithm to understand who your content is meant for, but once it figures it out, your account can explode!
Content Lifespan
The content you post on Facebook and Instagram is only pushed out for about 24-48 hours. But, both Facebook and Instagram have implemented reels so that number can be higher. TikTok has forced virtually every other social media platform to create some type of short-form video content in order to keep people on their app. Facebook and Instagram offer Reels and YouTube offers YouTube Shorts for example.
But even though other platforms are implementing short-form video content, their algorithm still doesn’t compare to TikTok’s.
Your content on TikTok has the potential to go viral days, weeks, months, and even years after you post it!
How Do You Grow On TikTok?
This is one of the questions that I get asked the most. How can you grow on TikTok AND how can it help your business?
There is not a simple answer that applies to everyone, but here are the most common strategies to implement that will help your TikTok and your business grow.
Optimize Your TikTok Bio
The first thing you should do is optimize your bio. Have your name or business name first, then have a clear, direct sentence that explains exactly what someone can expect from following you. If you have a business account you can have a link in your bio immediately, but if you have a creator account you will get the link in your bio when you have 1,000 followers.
If you have an Instagram page and/or YouTube channel, you should also link those to your TikTok.
Content
The content you create needs to fall in at least one of these categories.
Educational – Teach your audience, provide no-fluff value, and your audience will trust you and look to you as the go-to expert in your industry.
Entertaining – You don’t have to dance or lip-sync to be entertaining. Simply showing your personality, and adding some real-life scenarios/situations to your videos is enough! People love relatable content.
Promotional – Talk about your freebies, offers, courses, FB groups, etc. Let your audience know about any launches, or new products/services. Don’t be afraid to tell them what you offer and how you can help solve their problem(s)!
Hook
You have approximately 1-3 seconds to grab your audience’s attention and make them stop scrolling. This will be achieved by having an attention-grabbing hook at the beginning of your video. You can do this in a couple of different ways! Speak the hook as your first sentence and/or put it in text form on the screen.
Consistency
You don’t have to post 3, 5, 10, or even 1 time per day. You can post 1 or 3 times per week and still grow on TikTok. What matters most is consistency. So, you need to determine how many videos you can commit to creating and stick to it!
Hashtags
Some people will tell you that hashtags don’t matter, but I completely disagree. The hashtags that you use in your captions act essentially like SEO on TikTok. Your hashtags help the platform categorize your content and determine who your content is meant for. If you need help with hashtag research to compile a list of relevant hashtags for your niche/industry, products/services, and target audience I can help you. I offer hashtag research as an a la carte service or it is included in my DWY and DFY packages.
